Floyd Fielder attended Fairview Elementary, Lowell Jr. High, and Northern High School. He participated in football, basketball and track. He attended Hampton Institute, Michigan State College and the University of Michigan for three years as a Psychology Major.He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the well known MEIU-Unit 4 Navy Intelligence Team.While in the Navy he played for the soccer and volleyball team and won the 9th, 5th and 3rd boxing honors.
Floyd’s boxing honors were many as a Michigan Welterweight Champion and as a result of his boxing knowledge, Floyd has worked with potential boxers at Berston Fieldhouse since 1953. Sports was not his only forte. He, along with others, began the CANUSA GAMES, FICC (Flint Interracial Center) at Fairview Elementary School, Buddy Club and the Flint Youth Bureau, later known as The Big Brothers. Floyd was also the first president of the PALS Club.
His hobbies are working with youth in any area where he can be of help, reading and Shakespearean poetry.
