J.B. Elzy, a Flint native, attended Parkland Elementary, Emerson Jr. High and graduated from Flint Northern High School. Living close to Berston and Oak Park J.B. was exposed to athletics at an early age and learned that conditioning and attitude was a high priority to be a great athlete. The sports programs for youngsters at Berston and junior high school played a big part in his development. At Northern in 1958, he participated in track, broadjump and shuttle hurdles relay (58.3), Northern was valley track champions that year.

In 1959 J.B. was Northern’s leading football rusher with 474 yards. He was all valley fullback. Selected honorable mention all state, and all state all classes third team.

After graduating J.B. entered Albion College. In 1961 at Albion he set the sophomore rushing record of 752 yards. Albions second leading scorer with 44 points and second on team in touchdowns, seven. All conference M.I.A.A. halfback, all state college fullback, Methodist All-American team. Albion was undefeated conference champions. J.B. was the 1963 Albion teams most valuable player. Set the Albion College rushing record for season 773 yards. His Albion career rushing record is 2,265 yards. All state small college team, J.B. received the most votes for the college all state team, and voted M.I.A.A. most valuable player for the 1963 season. Dr. J. B. Elzy is currently the principal at McNeil Jr. High, Beloit, Wisconsin. He received his doctorate degree from the University of Virginia in 1976, at Charlottesville, Va.
