William Waters attended Dewey Elementary, Holmes Middle School and is a graduate of Flint Northern High School. William was on the wrestling team at Flint Northern from 1980-1983 under legendary wrestling coach Francis Bentley. William was a city wrestling champion three times, Saginaw Valley champion two times and state champion in 1983 (undefeated 54-0).

William attended the University of Michigan where he lettered four times, qualifying three times for the NCAA Championship. He was a three-time All-Big Ten wrestler (2nd, 3rd, 3rd); was Big Ten runner-up at 118 pounds and World Espoir Trails champion both in 1984; and was voted one of the best 118 pounders to ever wrestle for the University of Michigan.

William’s post-college awards include the Midwest Espoir Freestyle Outstanding Wrestler, the World Espoir Team Trails Championship, and was a bronze medalist at the World Espoir Championships in St. John’s, Newfoundland – all in 1984.

William stated that one of his greatest achievements was helping his alma mater, Flint Northern High School, win the 1995 Class A State Wrestling Championship under the leadership of coach Al “Butch” Collins.
