Dennis grew up on Flint’s north side. He attended Holmes Jr. High and graduated from Flint Northwestern High School in 1975. For two years Dennis was one of the premier performers in the Saginaw Valley Conference He earned All-State and Most Valuable Player honors during his senior year at Flint Northwestern. Dennis attended the University of Southern California where he became a three-year starter and an All-American linebacker. During his stay at U.S.C. they went 31-5-1. He was a member of U.S.C.’s 1978 National Championship Team. U.S.C. was 13 th in the final AP polls in 1977 and second in 1979. Dennis played in the 1980 Rose Bowl and 1977 Bluebonnet Bowl. He was U.S.C.’s team captain in 1979 and two-time All Conference first team (1978-1979). He played in the 1980 Hula Bowl and the Senior Bowl. Dennis was U.S.C’s leading tackler in 1977 (105), 1978 (124), and 1979 (114). Dennis was drafted in the fourth round of the NFL draft by the Minnesota Vikings. He played for 5.5 seasons for the Vikings and retired from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1985. He was Inducted into the Greater Flint Sports Hall of Fame in 1991.
