Yvonne Thompson was a dominating forward on the legendary Flint Northern High School Girls Basketball team. In 1981 she helped lead the Lady Vikings to a State Championship win.  

Thompson emerged as one of Northern’s best players during the playoffs in 1981.  In a regional final victory against Davison, Thompson led her team with 13 points and 22 rebounds. Thompson scored 26 points and pulled down 16 rebounds in the team’s quarter-final victory.  

Thompson also made multiple clutch free throws in both the State Semi-Final game and the State Championship game in 1981. As a sophomore, she was named to the All-City and All-Valley teams.  

During her career at Northern, Thompson was named to the All-State, All-Valley, and All-City teams multiple times.  

She continued her academic and athletic career at Iowa State and eventually Western Michigan University.  

While at WMU she was selected to the All-Mid-American Conference team in 1988.  That same season she led her team with 264 total rebounds.  

Yvonne Thompson, you are the true definition of being “Flint Strong!”  You have made Flint proud. Welcome to the Greater Flint African American Sports Hall of Fame!
