Jay Greene’s athletic journey began at Flint Central High School where he became one of the most accomplished two-sport athletes in the history of Flint-area sports.
On the hardwood, Greene was a two-time All-City, All-Valley and All-State selection. As a sophomore, he broke the all-time Flint city single-season scoring record previously held by Hall of Famer Jeff Grayer. While at Central, Greene also led the Indians in three-point shooting percentage, rebounds and steals. In football, Greene played wide receiver and tight end positions. His incredible speed and high jumping ability helped earn him three-time All-City, three-time All-Valley and two-time All-State honors.
By the end of his senior season, Greene was the number one ranked wide receiver in America, averaging 20 yards per catch and was named to the Parade All-American football team. One of his best performances came in a game against Flint Northern when he scored two touchdowns, one of which was the game winning touchdown with 18 seconds left to give the Indians a victory over their rivals.
As a standout performer in two sports, Greene had many collegiate options. He chose to focus on football and continue his career at Michigan State University. Greene was the latest in a long line of great receivers from the city of Flint to play football for the Spartans. Greene earned a degree in psychology from MSU and has spent over 20 years working with and guiding the youth in many different communities.
Jay Greene, you are the true definition of being “Flint Strong!” You have made Flint proud, welcome to the GFAASHOF!
