Kevin Tiggs’ road to the GFAASHOF was driven by grit and determination. Even though he had great athletic ability, he only played organized basketball for one season in high school, primarily as a role player during his junior year at Flint Northern. Tiggs honed his scoring and rebounding skills playing streetball on the playgrounds around the City of Flint. This path eventually led to an open gym session at Mott Community College, where he caught the eye of head coach Steve Schmidt. Tiggs joined the Bears for the 2005-2006 season and the rest is history.

Tiggs was named to the All-Conference team in his freshman season and followed it up the next year when he helped lead the Mott Bears to win the 2007 Junior College National Championship. In recognition of his outstanding play, Tiggs was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the national tournament, earned first-team All-American honors and named the 2007 National Junior College Player of the Year by the National Junior Division-2 College Coaches Association.

As a freshman for Mott, Tiggs averaged 10.9 points per game and 6.7 rebounds per game.  As a sophomore, he continued to improve by scoring 18.8 points per game and grabbing 7.2 rebounds per game.  After two years at Mott, he continued his basketball career at East Tennessee State University. While at ETSU, Tiggs received second-team All-Atlantic Sun Conference recognition as a junior while scoring 14.6 points per game. As a senior, he was first-team All-Atlantic Sun Conference with a 21.4 points per game scoring average. One of his best performances took place in a game against Mercer where he scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

After college, Tiggs went on to play basketball internationally for over eight years and won two championships in professional leagues. In 2015, Tiggs averaged 13.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.2 steals per game playing professionally in Europe and, in 2016, he averaged 13.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
